Main Differences Between Asphalt and Concrete

If you are looking for a newly paved driveway, or perhaps a newly paved parking lot for your business, deciding what kind of material to lay can be a long process.  Between concrete and asphalt, the best choice for your new pavement is always going to be asphalt.  But there are several reasons why asphalt pavement holds the upper hand.

Total Asphalt Paving, Inc. has your back for all your residential asphalt paving and commercial asphalt paving needs.  Let’s look at why we strongly recommend you invest in asphalt:

Asphalt Paving Is Flexible & Durable

Between paving asphalt or concrete, asphalt is the most flexible material.  In Michigan, we have four seasons, which means that temperatures are always fluctuating and changing with the seasons.  Asphalt is made with a surface built over courses of bases and subbases.  These courses are made with gravel or stone, and they lie on top of a compressed subgrade (or compressed soil).

You Can Pour Asphalt Over Existing Pavement

In addition to the climate-friendly and high flexibility, the advantages of asphalt include its ability to be paved over existing asphalt.  Replacing asphalt is another relatively easy task for a licensed asphalt paver, as well.  With the ability to be 100% recycled, asphalt can be removed, mixed back up, and replaced right back on the surface.

Concrete Costs More & Takes Longer to Dry

Prices will vary depending on where you live, the timeline of the work, and the amount of new material that is going to be poured.  Whether you use concrete sealant or stain removers, repairing concrete is expensive and requires a great deal of labor.  You will also notice a significant difference in the quality and color of the pavement if you opt to repair only a part of the pavement.  If you need asphalt repairs or asphalt resurfacing, the process is less and will blend well with the original work.
